Well, in a conversation this noon with one of the participants of the ongoing Accelewrite Bootcamp after the today's live session, saying that of all the writing courses he has taken, none has delved into the origin of the scarcity/never enough mindset that has stiffled the flow of the creative juice of writers quite like Accelewrite.
I told him "we are just warming up" and rightly so. This module development idea is from Theodore Roosevelt’s speech “Citizenship in a Republic.” sometimes referred to as “The Man in the Arena.”
The first time I read this quote, I thought, This is vulnerability and it is integral to the Writers Work. Everything I’ve learned from more than half a decade of research on creative work and pursuit has taught me this exact lesson.
As Creatives, when we spend our lives waiting until we’re perfect or bulletproof before we walk into the arena, we ultimately sacrifice relationships, impact and opportunities that may not be recoverable, we squander our precious time, and we turn our backs on our gifts, those unique contributions that only we can make.
We must walk into the arena, whatever it may be—a new relationship, an important meeting, or our creative process—with courage and the willingness to engage. Rather than sitting on the sidelines and hurling judgment and advice, we must dare to show up and let ourselves be seen.
This is vulnerability. This is to DARE.
I have spent a lot of time evangelising around online writing and here's the thing I have discovered: there is no creativity without vulnerability and there's no innovation without tolerance for failure.
I am confident that Accelewrite 2022 will produce BOLD and DARING Creatives showing up and letting themselves seen.
